HOWTO: Install Modules

Postby mg » March 10th, 2016, 4:42 pm

Introduction

Control modules are delivered in one of three ways:

  • As User Components, with a file extension of .quc
  • As Plugins, with a file extension of .lua
  • As Design Files, with a file extension of .qsys
To install these modules, please follow the instructions below that correspond to the file type you have.

Installing User Components

  • Navigate to:
    5.2 or earlier: C:\Users\<Your username>\Documents\QSC Audio\Q-Sys Designer\User Components\
    5.3 or later: C:\Users\<Your username>\Documents\QSC\Q-Sys Designer\User Components\
  • Place the User Component (.quc file) in this folder.
  • Restart Q-Sys Designer.
The user component should now appear in the right-hand side of the screen under "User Library".

Installing Plugins

  • Navigate to:
    5.2 or earlier: C:\Users\<Your username>\Documents\QSC Audio\Q-Sys Designer\Plugins\
    5.3 or later: C:\Users\<Your username>\Documents\QSC\Q-Sys Designer\Plugins\
  • Place the plugin (.lua file) in this folder.
  • Restart Q-Sys Designer.
The plugin should now appear in the right-hand side of the screen under "Schematic Library", then "Plugins".

Modules in Design Files

Simply open the design file in Q-Sys Designer, and copy the module out into your project. You may wish to drag the module into your User Library (on the right) for use in future.

If the folder isn't there (which it may not be if you haven't yet created any user components), you may need to create it!

Q-Sys plugins are moving to a .qplug extension now (since sometime around version 6 I think, it's definitely in versions 6 and 7). This is a filetype registered to Q-Sys Designer, and double-clicking on the .qplug file should install it in the proper location without you having to manually put it there. You can still copy the file to the Plugins folder if you want to, and it is still a Lua file for editing purposes, but the double-click-to-install can make managing and sharing plugins easier.
